[RADIATOR] What is the best way to get Net::LDAP on REdHat 8 ?

Excuse me for prematurely hitting ‘send’….

As I was saying, CPAN versus EPEL.
Are there any pro’s and con’s when using Radiator?

I have no personal favourite, I would like to choose the most futureproof and robust solution.
So I hope someone else has already gone through the same struggles and came up with the ultimate answer….

With kind regards,

Ydo

Subject: [RADIATOR] What is the best way to get Net::LDAP on REdHat 8 ?

Dear Radius admins,

I have spent a fair amount of time already reading posts, complaints, rants questions and other info on RedHat/CentOS 8 and the use of Perl modules.
And as none of these have provided me with a solid answer to my question, I am left with two options.
The last option being an random pick of two paths, starting and hoping of success.
Burt, before I do so, I hope that anyone here might already have done the hard work and can give me some advice.

So, on to the matter at hand….
With the upcoming EOL of RedHat 6, we are working on getting our servers up-to-date and running on RHEL 8 (if possible) within the next few months.
And our radius servers are a (small) part of this larger operation.
Coming from RedHat 6, init.d services, Radiator 4.18 and a config still largely based on best practices from years back, I thought it wise to start from scratch.
And it is actually quite easy to redesign your config when you have some years of experience; just reading the manual thoroughly gets you a long way.

That is, until I started the service - using system this time around - which failed; as it turned out, the perl Net::LDAP module was missing.
Being used to a long list of commands when building from source, the RPM install was quick and easy, albeit not all-encompassing ……

So, now I have to install the Net::LDAP perl module, among others, but there seems not yet to be any consensus as how to do this best.
As I see it, I can either use the epel repository and install the modules from there, or I can install themn through CPAN.
