(RADIATOR) AuthBy ACE and ACE version 4.0

I need to authenticate against an ACE server running version 4.0 software. I don't run the server and can't upgrade its software. The documentation for Authen::ACE4 says it requires version 4.1 or above. Does anyone know whether I can authenticate against a version 4.0 server using Authen::ACE4 built with a version 4.1 client library?
