I'd guess you could try the following
- Put your log files on a ReiserFS partition (it's significantly faster than
ext2/ext3 most of the time - there are benchmarks but I don't have a link
handy)
- Recompile your perl tree with either -O2 or -O3 as a gcc flag (*test* it
afterwards, should work but it isn't guaranteed) for extra speed
As for the user lookup (assuming there's a noticeable number), instead of
using a flat file, try using either
- AuthBy LDAP and TinyLDAP
or
- DBD::SQLite
I suspect you'll quite possibly see a *significantly* increased speed.
You might also want to try a kernel recompile.
