Hmmm, I dont think I will be able to reproduce that environment easily. Anyone 
else?

No, its a post-increment, which means that the value of the expression 
$in_log++ is the value _before_ incrementing. See Programming Perl 3rd 
edition, p91 'Autoincrement and Autodecrement'.
