(RADIATOR) AUTHLOG SQL

Thanks for all the help on the list I know have AUTHLOG SQL working.
My only problem is that some people are sending through usernames that have ' ^ and & " in them
is there anyway I can rewrite these usernames to be only alphabetical and numeric. 
I  have seen the rewrite function unfortunately I am not good with perl.
Has anyone done this before and maybe have a pre-written string
