(RADIATOR) ADSI and LDAP

Hugh,
 
Using ADSI and LDAP against a Windows 2000 AD, is it possible to
authenticate against an Active Directory attribute within  a CN for eg
userprinciplename rather then the CN for a user? Also a CN with a space
eg Joe Bloggs comes back with No such user , how can I send a name with
a space as the CN?
